In general, although the relaxation of sanctions against Russia can alleviate the short-term fertilizer supplyment, the international urea price is still in a situation that easy to rise but difficult to fall in the future under the continuous serious between global fertilizer supply and demand.
From the perspective of global fertilizer production, the capacity of synthetic ammonia production accounted for the largest proportion, reaching 236 million tons, followed by urea 227 million tons.Potassium sulfate, monoammonium phosphate and diammonium phosphate are increased rapidly, and the demand for synthetic ammonia and potassium magnesium sulfide also increased rapidly.
Capacity& Demand Table of Global Fertilizers
As of 2021, Russia is the world's largest exporter of nitrogen fertilizer, who exported 4.4 million tons of ammonia, 7 million tons of urea and 1.8 million tons of urea ammonium nitrate solution (UAN). Due to the absence of data for 2021, we find that Russia exported 4.1733 million tons of ammonia in 2020, with its main exporters being Ukraine 817,300 tons (21%), Estonia 795,400 tons (20%), and Morocco 496,000 tons (13%).
It is worth noting that according to the news on March 31, 2022, due to the interruption of Russia supply, the United States will relax the restrictions on the import of chemical fertilizers to Russia. If the United States loosens the sanctions on the export of chemical fertilizer to Russia, the global chemical fertilizer supply chain will be eased to some extent.
